Hedlow Creek
Just 20 minutes west of Yeppoon via Old Byfield Road, beautiful Headlow Creek is located about 2.6km along Lake Mary Rd from the intersection of Serpentine Rd. Mt Headlow Camping and Water Reserve which skirts Headlow Creek is open to the public for free for swimming, kayaking and picnicking the boundaries of this area are clearly marked and signed.
Kelly’s Landing, Farnborough & Corbett’s Landing, Byfield – Recommend No Swimming
NO SWIMMING! At the Boat Ramps.
Estuarine crocodiles are said to inhabit these areas. Take care particularly in and around Corio Bay and the lower reaches of Water Park Creek. See Be croc wise for further crocodile safety advice.
Byfield Creeks
Upper Stony
Upper Stony Creek has pristine swimming and a large open campground, set amongst eucalypt and pine forest, right near the creek. There is a short (1km) walk along Stony Creek which is fairly easy grade and suitable for kids with a nice little swimming hole down at Freeman’s Crossing.
Getting there: From Yeppoon take Yeppoon-Byfield Rd, at about 10km this becomes Farnborough Rd at the roundabout at Farnborough, continue straight about another 10km until you reach the t intersection take the right into Byfield Rd and follow about 12km till you see Stoney Creek turnoff on the left. The turnoff is 5 mins past Mary Vale Flats, where you drive over 20 meters of cement floodway. When you turn in, follow the dirt road for 10 mins out to the campsite and day area.
Waterpark
Waterpark creek is a beautiful swimming spot, with shallow play areas at the crossing, and a short walk upstream you’ll find a rather high hanging swing that’s not for the faint-hearted.
Local Knowledge: Don’t jump straight from the cement platform steps. The original swinging tree, to the left, fell during the cyclone, as you can see the top half makes a great resting seat, slide in and you’ll feel it about one meter below the water surface.

Follow Water Park out to the campsite and day area.
Red Rock
Red Rock is a Pet-Friendly camping area set among pine plantation a short drive from Yeppoon. You won’t see the creek from the camping area, so face north and look for the walking tracks and you’ll find your way down to the creek.
Getting there: Follow the directions to Waterpark but stop short of the forestry barracks. If you’ve crossed the bridge you’ve just missed it.
