Capricorn Coast Campsites
Byfield National Park is Capricorn Coasts go to camping hotspot. Beautiful swimming spots, kayaking, BBQ facilities, amenities available at most sites. Our local caravan parks also offer camping.

Byfield Campsites
Upper Stony Campground
A large open campground, set amongst native and pine forest, right near the creek. Some of the sites here are suitable for camper trailers the others are more suited to tent based camping.
There are flushing toilets, and push-button barbecues, as well as picnic tables in the day use area. The campsites are mostly level and grassy, with plenty of shade from the mature trees.
There are walking tracks along Stony Creek which is fairly easy grade and suitable for kids (supervised of course). There is a nice little swimming hole at Freeman’s Crossing.

Number of sites: 16- Camping Fees: $6.55 per person or $26.20 for a family.

- Swimming: This campsite is near a creek that is a swimming hole.
- Fishing: There is no fishing at or near this campsite.

Access: This campsite is accessible with regular 2wd vehicles.
Getting there The gravel access road to the campsite is OK for small vans
Nine Mile Beach Campground
4wd only access, beach camping with no facilities in Byfield National Park.
There are four separate campsites here (Myrtella, Melaleuca, Pandanus and Casurina) all with a mixture of grass and sand bases. They all have easy access over the dunes to the beach and all have no facilities.

Location information for Nine Mile Beach
Access: 4wd only access.Getting there: 32 km east of Water Park Creek and approximately 6 km south of Nine Mile Access Track.
Water Park Creek Campground
Beautiful, walk-in or drive in
Bowenia Rainforest Circuit is a great little walk (1.2km) starting at the day use area near the campground. It passes through turpentine forest and ancient cycads as well as rainforest. Great walk for kids as it is fairly short and easy.
Water Park Creek itself is a top spot for kayaking and fishing, locals swimming here but it is signed for saltwater crocodiles. They have been spotted south at Corbett’s Landing boat ramp. There is easy access to the creek from the campground and day use area.

Location information for Water Park Creek
Access: Drive to location campsite or some walk-in.Getting there: There is a short walk from the carpark to some campsites. The campground is on Water Park Rd, in Byfield State Forest (about 42km north from Yeppoon).
From Yeppoon, take the Yeppoon / Byfield Road north for about 37km and turn right onto Water Park Road. Follow this for about another 4km.


Red Rock Campground
Large, open and grassy campground set amongst pine trees in Byfield State Forest. The campground is suitable for caravans, camper trailers or tent based camping. It is mostly level with plenty of grass and shade. There are wood barbecues (bring your own firewood and check current restrictions). There is also some picnic table scattered through the campground.
There are also some walk-in only campsites that are a bit quieter if you are happy to camp a little way from your car.

Location information for Red Rock
Access: This site is accessible by caravans in good weather.Getting there: The drive-in section is suitable for medium-sized campers and caravans.
The campground is signed off Byfield Road, near the Forestry Office
Five Rocks Campground
4wd access only, beachside camping in Byfield Conservation Park.
This is a beautiful campground set amongst coastal vegetation, with direct access to the beach (no vehicle access is permitted in this section). There are cold water showers for washing the salt and sand off the kids and picnic tables. You will need to bring a fuel stove to cook up your fishing catch though, as no fires are permitted.

Access: 4wd only access.Getting there: Accessed from Byfield National Park, about 28km east from Water Park Creek.
Scouts Camp Campground
Small and secluded, this walk-in or boat in
With views of Corio Bay, this is an excellent spot to base for a boat fishing trip. You can bring the boat in on the beach, set up camp, and then head out for a fishing trip.
If you don’t have a boat, you can also walk in at low tide from the Corio Bay car park. There is just one campsite here and it must be booked in advance (see below for booking information). The campsite is mostly sand with a little grass and is perfect for tent based camping.
No fires are permitted here, you will need to bring a fuel stove to cook up your fish.
